ELIGIBILITY

JEWEL CITY HACKS 4.0 is open to working professionals and students residing in the City of Glendale, Upstart Valley, and Los Angeles County. Participants must be at least 14 years old. Participants under 18 must have a parent or guardian sign a Hackathon Participation Consent Form, and that parent or guardian must be present at check-in and check-out.

REGISTRATION

All participants must apply through the official Luma event page (luma.com/jewelcityhacks4) and receive confirmation prior to attending. On-site capacity is limited to 50 hackers; remote participation is available via Google Meet and Discord.

TEAMS

Teams may consist of 1–4 participants. Solo entries are permitted. Each team may submit only one project on Devpost.

CODE OF CONDUCT

All participants, mentors, judges, sponsors, and organizers are expected to act with respect, professionalism, and inclusivity at all times. Harassment, discrimination, or disrespectful behavior of any kind will not be tolerated and may result in removal from the event without recognition or prizes. Participants must comply with all Glendale Community College facility policies.

PROJECT & INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY

All project work must be original to your team and built during the hackathon window. You may use open-source libraries, public APIs, and pre-existing assets you have rights to use. Teams retain full ownership of any intellectual property they create. By submitting, participants grant JEWEL CITY HACKS, Hacker Fund, and event sponsors a non-exclusive license to display, share, and promote the project for educational and promotional purposes.

SUBMISSIONS

Submissions open at 8:45 AM PT and close at 6:00 PM PT on Saturday, May 9, 2026. Late submissions will not be accepted. Submissions must be made via Devpost to be eligible for prizes.

JUDGING

Projects will be judged by a panel of industry mentors and event organizers based on the published judging criteria: Technical Execution (40%), Social/Local Impact (20%), Presentation Skills (15%), Feasibility (15%), and Creativity (10%). Judges' decisions are final.

PRIZES

Prizes include a combination of grant support, professional services, and cutting-edge equipment to help winners continue building beyond the hackathon. All participants will receive a Certificate of Achievement. Prizes are non-transferable and have no cash value unless otherwise specified.

LIABILITY

All participants must sign the Hackathon Participation Consent & Liability Waiver before checking in. Participants attend at their own risk and are responsible for their own equipment and personal belongings. JEWEL CITY HACKS, Hacker Fund, Glendale Community College, and event sponsors are not liable for any loss, damage, or injury sustained during the event.

CHANGES

Organizers reserve the right to modify the schedule, rules, or prize structure at any time. The current version of these rules will always be reflected on this page.
